'by p, q': closely related to Manner in that it answers 'how'-questions; different from Manner: (i) conversion into a purpose relation ('p in order to q') is always possible; (ii) the event q must be "instrument-neutral", i.e. not entirely determined with respect to the instrument or method required for performing it (e.g. By twisting her body sideways, she freed herself; [German Er löste das Problem, indem/dadurch dass er den Minister informierte. 'He solved the problem by informing the minister'])
